The Years

    Verse

    Hello, how are you?
I’m getting older and I need someone to talk to.
    Don’t you think it’s strange,
that we get older every day?

I don’t even know what I’m doing here,
and the clock just ticks away.
Yes I’m afraid, That I won’t find my way.

Don’t want to end up an old man who wishes he’d done differently.
No way, oh tell me it’s not to late.
Surely there is someone is this world who might relate to me.

    Chorus

    Another year has passed.
And there is hair growing on my chest,
things are moving so fast, everybody is getting older.

    Another year has passed.
All those memories locked inside my head but it’s sad,
Cause I’ll never see them again no.

And maybe it takes , just a little bit more time, to realize that you’re living now.

    Verse

    And my body,
    My body will change,
    But that’s okay,
    Cause women say,
That men get beautiful with age.

    Well I pray,
That I can keep up with society,
Unlike all those old folks today,
    They don’t understand technology.
    But that’s okay.

I’m not gonna be that way,
Sitting in my own build house,
Right next to the beautiful sea,

    I’ll be happy
Yes I’ll be happy as hell,
A smiling old man with a couple of stories to tell.

    Bridge

So talking to you I kind of realized,
That it’s not so bad getting old and wise.
I guess that’s our main quality in life,
    Being able to die.

    And time,
    Oh time
Gives us the power and the drive to live our dreams right.

    Can you hear it tick?
    Can you hear it tick?

Oh you better start having some fun,
    Better do it quick.

    I said a,
    Tick tack says the clock,
I said a tick tack says the clock.
    I said a,
    Tick tack says the clock,
I said a tick tack says the clock. (x4)

    Chorus

    Another year has passed.
And there is hair growing on my chest,
things are moving so fast, everybody is getting older.

    Another year has passed.
All those memories locked inside my head but it’s sad,

As a human being, there is a common fear of getting old. Wich is totally uncalled for because we al get old together. And besides that it’s a natural process.

Getting older doesn’t happen over night. Nobody wakes up, looks in the mirror and says: “well what do you know, I’m old!”. But there is a moment when you gradually realize. For me that moment was when I was working in the mountains of Austria in a bar. I worked in many places around the world and most of the time was the youngest. But this time, for the first time, I was the oldest. This was food for thought, and I spend many hours in my bed thinking about what getting old really means..

My conclusion: shed the fear, go with what nature gives you, cherish your memories, enjoy yourself, and be proud of your wrinkles!
